Ringo had gotten up this morning and, for some reason, thought back to her discussion with Alluka at the picnic. They'd talked about doing more AirTrek, and Ringo had already kind of wanted to help Alluka get out more, so, well, why not today? So she pulled out her phone and dialed Alluka's number. She could talk and eat breakfast at the same time.

And poptarts totally counted as breakfast, okay?

They totally did! Forever!

(The chocolate ones were the best.)

Alluka was telling a story to her toys when her phone went off and she flailed off her bed to reach it.

"Hi, hi, hi!" she chirped. "You've reached me!"

Ringo laughed. "Good. Because I was trying to!"

"Ringo!" And there was proof Alluka could get even chirpier. "Ringo, hi!"

A beat as Alluka realized the last phone call she'd gotten and her chirpy died a little. "Ringo, are you somewhere far away now?"

Look, the last called she'd had had been from Kathy.

That hadn't even occurred to Ringo, and she shook her head emphatically. Which probably didn't help Alluka since she couldn't see it. "No, no. I'm in my room, but I was thinking about going out and enjoying the day. Maybe do some AirTrek stuff."

She grinned. "Are you busy? You want to join me?"

"I have punching lessons with Dante this afternoon," Alluka said. "And I need to decide what to wear. But, but if that's okay can I come? Please?"

Ringo's eyebrows rose. "Punching lessons?" Dante might have his faults, but she knew that he wouldn't actually hurt Alluka, so that was an amusing idea more than a worrying one.

"But, sure. We can work around that. You want to get together after punching, or before?"

Alluka hesitated.

"Um, um, we said that we were going to practice going outside when it was later," she said, a bit nervously. "So would this be a good thing to do?"

It wouldn't be very dark in the early evening, would it?

"Oh, you're right!" Ringo grinned. "We can do that, yeah."

"No there's two things to look forward to today," Alluka said happily. "Where should we meet, Ringo?"

Ringo almost suggested the old warehouse district, but that might be a little out of the way for a first outing. "Hmm. Good question. You want to just meet in town? Maybe near JGOB?" Where Ringo could totally get a brownie or two if she ended up getting there early.

"I know where that is!"

Of course she knew where to get sweets. "That's good for me!"

"What handwavey time will you be done with Dante? And do you want to have time for a shower or anything first?"

"Um, um, I think around handwavy!" Alluka giggled. "And, Ringo, you're being silly. If I'm going to skate then I'll just get sweaty again. So a shower would be silly before that."

[soniaroadsqueen]

"Hey, you can shower as many times as you want," Ringo shot back with a laugh. "But I'll plan on seeing you then!"

Then something occurred to her. "Unless something comes up! If we need to reschedule, you can just let me know."

"I'll be there, Ringo!" Alluka sounded a bit exasperated. "I want to go out skating with you!"

Ringo laughed. "Fine, fine. Then I'll see you there!"

So, there had been a few mentions of an incoming storm over the radio since yesterday, but the special announcement by Zoe had sort of clenched it. This one was probably going to be serious.

Which was an odd thing to say about a weather system on an island where the sky regularly dropped ice cream and small animals, but here we were.

So he was calling up Alluka, just to be absolutely certain that she'd gotten the memo.

Ring ring, Sunshine!

Like Alluka ever got memos. Really, Jono.

She scrambled out of her closets (she was still debating what to wear for the day) when her phone went off.

"I got it!" she announced once she'd picked her phone up. "Hi, hi!"

//Hey, there, Sunshine,// Jono said, his own voice cheerful as he heard her excited tone on the other end of the line. //How're you today, luv?//

Getting that phone like a champ. Awww.

Jono had noticed something off, so Hannibal was calling to see if he could round up their little family.

"Hello, Sunshine-and-Shadow," he said, a little teasing. "It's looking as though there may be difficulties this weekend, so your Papa Jono and I would like to ask you to grab your most delicate friends and visit us for now, please. We hope to see you soon."

And arriving in Alluka's mail midweek...

Alluka was still sick as... as, well, anything. And super sulky about it.

But this? This? This was getting an 'EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!' out of her.

It was so pretty! So fancy! It was an invite for both of them! And chocolate? From Kathy?!

Her eeeee-ing was cut off by coughing, but as she toddled right back to bed, she brought the invitation with her so she could admire it.

Delivery

At some point during the day, a delivery arrives.

A box of chocolates shaped like a basket, with miniature versions of Alluka's toys in chocolate inside it.

Another box, with an assortment of marshmallows in it.

The note reads: I hope you both enjoy this and have a lovely day. I'm pleased to have you both in my world, Sunshine and Shadow.

Voicemail left after the power goes out

Hello, my darlings. I will keep this short for the sake of our batteries, but we have a generator at the house and should be nicely warm, if you would like to visit until this storm blows over. Please let us know, and I have no doubt your Papa Jono would be pleased to come and get you. Stay warm!

Alluka did the only thing, really, she could do when she was waiting in a cold, dark lobby for Sparkle to show up.

She felt better, just hearing her Papa's voice.

And sent him a text back: Sparkle's taking me shopping on the mainland, Papa! We're going to stay at a hotel and have hot chocolate! I love you!
